bannock

Posted on February 10, 2026

Here’s a super easy classic bannock recipe — cozy, forgiving, and perfect with butter or jam 😌

Simple Bannock (Pan or Campfire Style)

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tbsp baking powder

½ tsp salt

2 tbsp oil, melted butter, or lard

~¾ cup water or milk (add slowly)

Instructions

Mix dry stuff
In a bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, and salt.

Add fat + liquid
Mix in oil/butter, then slowly add water or milk until you get a soft, not-sticky dough.

Shape it
Pat into a flat round about 1–1½ inches thick.

Cook it

Pan: Heat a lightly oiled skillet on medium-low. Cook 10–15 min per side until golden and cooked through.

Oven: Bake at 375°F / 190°C for ~30 minutes.

Campfire: Wrap around a stick or cook in a pan over coals, turning often.

Rest & eat
Let it cool a bit (if you can wait). Slather with butter, honey, jam, or dip in stew.

Easy Variations

Sweet: add 1–2 tbsp sugar + handful of berries or raisins

Savory: add herbs, garlic powder, or shredded cheese

Extra fluffy: use milk instead of water

If you want traditional Indigenous-style, fried vs baked, or campfire-only bannock, tell me your vibe and I’ll tweak it 👌
