chocolate cream

Posted on April 5, 2025

Here’s a simple and delicious chocolate cream recipe you can make at home. This rich and creamy chocolate filling is perfect for cakes, pastries, or even just as a spread.

Ingredients:

1 cup heavy cream

8 oz (about 1 cup) semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped (use high-quality chocolate for best results)

1/4 cup powdered sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, for flavor)

Pinch of salt (optional, to enhance the chocolate flavor)

Instructions:

Heat the Cream:

In a medium saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat. Stir occasionally, and once the cream starts to steam and tiny bubbles form around the edges (but not a full boil), remove it from the heat.

Add the Chocolate:

Place the chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl. Pour the hot cream over the chocolate. Let it sit for about 2-3 minutes to allow the chocolate to soften.

Whisk Until Smooth:

After letting the chocolate and cream sit, whisk everything together until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth and glossy. If there are any small lumps, keep whisking until they disappear.

Add Sweetener and Flavorings (Optional):

If you like your chocolate cream a bit sweeter, whisk in powdered sugar to taste. Also, add the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt if using. The salt helps to balance the sweetness and enhances the chocolate flavor.

Chill (Optional for a Thicker Texture):

If you want the chocolate cream to firm up and become more like a spreadable frosting or filling, refrigerate it for 1-2 hours. The mixture will thicken as it cools.

Use or Store:

Once it’s chilled, you can use it immediately as a filling for cakes, cupcakes, or pastries. If you’re using it as a spread, it will be nice and thick. If you want it to be softer, you can let it sit at room temperature for a bit before using.

Tips:

For extra smooth cream: If you want the cream to be ultra-smooth, you can strain it through a fine mesh sieve after mixing, especially if any chocolate bits remain.

For different flavors: You can experiment with different kinds of chocolate (milk, dark, or white) and add flavorings like coffee, mint, or orange zest for a twist.

Enjoy your chocolate cream! It’s versatile, rich, and delicious.
