Here’s a classic Italian-style Meatballs and Ravioli Sauce recipe that brings rich flavor and comfort to the table:
Meatballs and Ravioli Sauce Recipe
Ingredients
For the Meatballs:
1 lb ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (or 1 tsp dried)
1 egg
Salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup milk
For the Sauce:
2 tbsp olive oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
2-3 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
2 tbsp tomato paste (optional for thickness)
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried basil
1/2 tsp sugar (to balance acidity)
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)
For the Ravioli:
1 package (about 18 oz) of cheese or meat-filled ravioli (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
1. Make the Meatballs:
In a large bowl, mix all meatball ingredients until combined (don’t overwork the meat).
Form into small meatballs (about 1 inch in diameter).
Optionally, brown meatballs in a skillet over medium heat with a little olive oil for 5–7 minutes until lightly browned. (This adds flavor.)
2. Make the Sauce:
In a large saucepan or deep skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
Sauté onion until soft (about 5 minutes), then add garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, sugar, salt, and pepper.
Add the browned (or raw) meatballs into the sauce.
Simmer gently, covered, for 25–30 minutes (longer if you want deeper flavor), stirring occasionally.
3. Cook the Ravioli:
While the sauce simmers, boil the ravioli according to package directions.
Drain and set aside.
4. Serve:
Spoon sauce and meatballs over ravioli.
Top with fresh herbs and grated Parmesan if desired.
