gluten free glazed donuts

Posted on May 20, 2026

Here’s a simple, fluffy gluten-free glazed donut recipe that tastes very close to classic bakery cake donuts — but baked instead of fried.

Gluten-Free Glazed Donuts

Adapted from recipes by Tasting Table and King Arthur Baking

Makes

10–12 donuts

Prep & Bake Time

About 30 minutes total

Ingredients

For the donuts

2 cups gluten-free 1:1 baking flour
(with xanthan gum — Bob’s Red Mill or King Arthur work well)

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp nutmeg

1/2 cup sugar

2 eggs

1/3 cup vegetable oil or melted butter

3/4 cup milk
(dairy or almond/oat milk)

1 tsp vanilla extract

For the glaze

1 cup powdered sugar

2–3 tbsp milk

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Optional:

Rainbow sprinkles

Melted chocolate drizzle

Instructions

1. Prep the oven

Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).

Grease a donut pan well.

If you don’t have a donut pan, you can use a muffin tin with small foil cylinders in the center to create the donut hole shape. (Tasting Table)

2. Make the batter

In a bowl, whisk together:

gluten-free flour

baking powder

baking soda

salt

cinnamon

nutmeg

In another bowl, whisk:

eggs

sugar

oil

milk

vanilla

Combine wet and dry ingredients until smooth. Don’t overmix.

3. Fill the pan

Spoon or pipe batter into donut cavities about 3/4 full.

4. Bake

Bake for:

10–12 minutes

The donuts should spring back lightly when touched. Gluten-free donuts dry out quickly if overbaked. (Gluten-Free Palate)

Cool for 5–10 minutes before glazing.

Make the glaze

Whisk together:

powdered sugar

milk

vanilla

Adjust consistency:

More milk = thinner glaze

More sugar = thicker glaze

Dip cooled donuts into glaze and place on a rack.

Add sprinkles immediately before the glaze sets.

Tips for Best Texture

Use a good gluten-free 1:1 flour blend with xanthan gum.

Let the batter rest 5 minutes before baking for better hydration.

Warm donuts slightly before serving — they taste softer and fresher.

Store airtight for up to 2 days.

Optional Chocolate Version

Add:

1/4 cup cocoa powder

2 extra tbsp milk

This creates chocolate glazed donuts similar to recipes from Basics With Bails and Gluten Free Palate.

If you want, I can also give you:

yeast-style Krispy Kreme gluten-free donuts

air fryer version

dairy-free version

almond flour / low-carb version
