Here’s a Strawberry & Basil Tart recipe that beautifully balances sweet and herbaceous flavors. This tart includes a crisp buttery crust, creamy filling, and a topping of fresh strawberries and basil.

Strawberry & Basil Tart Recipe

Ingredients

For the crust:

1 ¼ cups (160g) all-purpose flour

½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed

¼ cup (30g) powdered sugar

1 egg yolk

1–2 tbsp cold water

Pinch of salt

For the filling:

8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened

¼ cup (60ml) heavy cream

¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

Zest of 1 lemon (optional)

For the topping:

1 lb (450g) fresh strawberries, hulled and halved

1–2 tbsp honey or apricot jam (for glaze)

8–10 fresh basil leaves, thinly sliced (chiffonade)

Optional: balsamic glaze drizzle or a pinch of sea salt

Instructions

1. Make the crust:

In a food processor, pulse flour, powdered sugar, and salt.

Add butter and pulse until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Add egg yolk and 1 tbsp cold water. Pulse until dough just comes together (add more water if needed).

Press dough into a 9-inch tart pan with a removable bottom. Chill 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Prick crust with a fork and bake for 18–22 minutes or until golden. Cool completely.

2. Make the filling:

Beat cream cheese, sugar, cream, vanilla, and lemon zest until smooth and fluffy.

Spread evenly into the cooled crust.

3. Assemble the tart:

Arrange strawberries on top of the filling.

Warm honey or jam slightly and brush over strawberries to glaze.

Sprinkle with fresh basil just before serving.
